COUNTY GUIDERS' WEEKEND
What a super time we all had at Netherurd. If you have never been to a Guiders' Weekend, you don't know what you are missing. We had such a lot of fun while getting lots of new ideas. We had to look after our beautiful flowers and not let anyone steal them. This was a great source of mischief and our County President was right in there too!
The trainers were all excellent and so was the company. Julie is to be congratulated on a great weekend.
Thanks Julie!
CENTENARY RECEPTION FOR GUIDERS AT ST. JAMES' PALACE
Gourock Assistant District Commissioner, Eunice Lynch, visited London last week with County Commissioner, Moira Johnston, and Renfrew Division Commissioner, Maureen Buchanan, to take part in a special Centenary Reception for Guiders at St James’ Palace. The event was hosted by the Countess of Wessex, President of Girlguiding UK, and UK Chief Guide Liz Burnley. Also attending the event were Scottish Commissioner Dinah Faulds, Assistant Scottish Commissioner Pat Marwick, Scottish Centenary Champion and new County Commissioner for Glasgow from January 2011, Alison Plummer, along with other Guiders, Commissioners and Trefoil Guild from all over the UK.
Eunice received her invitation from Renfrewshire County Commissioner for her many Centenary Amateur Radio Activities for her District, Division, County and Scotland. This included using the unique call sign GG100GGR at many special events all over the County and even at the top of a Munro during the Scottish Challenge ‘100 Guides on a Munro’ where she was joined by three other Guiders from Gourock and members of Greenock & District Scouts Amateur Radio Club.
The reception was held in the state apartments which featured in the news recently during the announcement of Prince William’s engagement to Kate Middleton. The Countess of Wessex spent time talking to the guests over afternoon tea. After the Countess of Wessex left the Palace, Eunice and other guests were free to explore the three State rooms where the reception was held. The State Apartments hold many works of art, beautiful items of furnishings, tapestries and Royal portraits from the time of Henry VIII. The main feature in one of the rooms was the throne of Queen Victoria. On leaving the palace the Chief Guide presented everyone with a piece of Dartington Glass engraved with a Trefoil and the words ‘from the Chief Guide’. This was an amazing experience which Eunice will remember for a long time.’
