CAMP REPORT
Once again we have had quite a busy season, we started off with our training weekend, which as usual is well attended quickly followed by "THE WORKER". This is the time when all the tents get looked at and all the equipment that is issued to the camps is washed, dried and when needed replaced. It is also an opportunity to meet up with leaders from all sections as this is an open invitation to all to come and help us as no experience is needed.
There have been many camps and holidays, and some of the places visited were Baden-Powell House, Dunkeld, Birmingham, Lochgoilhead, Switzerland to name but a few.
A County Camp was held earlier this year and over 100 girls attended, we had a theme of medieval times and the programme related to this in many ways, we did archery (hunting for food), climbing (foraging for food), CB radios (communicating), suits of armour and ladies gowns. We also had a visit from the birds of prey again. This was most fascinating watching them fly around and hearing all about the history of the hunting birds (one owl decided to make a break for freedom and went for a look around). We did jousting (on bikes) - what you can do with a little imagination. This camp was held under canvas and some of the girls had never slept in canvas tents before let alone seen one up.
Another expedition was the PAGGS camp at Bonally Scout Centre, Edinburgh. A party of Leaders and Guides attended this 10 day camp and met up with scouts and guides from England, Holland, France, Denmark and Czechoslovakia. The normal camp activities took place but they also visited The Museum of Flight, Edinburgh Castle, Murrayfield (the home of Scottish Rugby) as well as a few trips to the shops. This was a truly International Camp and the girls (and leaders) had a great time.
Over the last year there have been approximately 800 guides, Senior Section and Leaders on camping/ holidays at South Newton which is quite an achievement.
My thanks to all those dedicated Camp Advisers who have worked hard to make this another successful season - Donna, Rita, Lesley, and Sheila - and not forgetting thanks to a certain lady who has made the flags for each of the camps, thanks Gayle.
