Trefoil Guild

The Centenary Year ended with the Vision events where we all had the opportunity to renew our Promise. In the November Trefoil Magazine we were challenged to record ‘My Promise in Action’ and there are some photos to illustrate this.

Our AGM at Cardonald in late November narrowly escaped the severe early start to winter. Morag Thow was an excellent speaker on Osteoporosis and the talk ended with some (sitting down) exercises for members; Morag then revealed her Guide uniform blouse which still fits her!

As usual guilds included one or more eating events in their programmes.

A variety of fundraising events were held - coffee mornings in Bishopton, Renfrew and Kilbarchan; a scripture bring and buy and a beetle drive at Cardonald and a silent auction at Bishopton.

Our involvement with Guiding remains strong. The Trefoil Guilds have a rota to care for the flagpole flowerbed at South Newton. Scotscraig visited Eaglesham for a parade of uniforms, Bishopton heard from local girls about the excitement of special centenary events and Cloch presented a starter pack and heard from Rachel Adamson about her trip to Australia. The international theme continued with talks on Finland, Mexico, Brazil and New Zealand.

Renfrew ‘chilled out’ with hot stone massage, Reiki and meditation. Vanduara entertained other Guilds to a musical evening followed by some campfire songs. Paisley Division and Vanduara visited the theatre and Kilellan and Scotscraig enjoyed ten pin bowling.

We learned about the drains of Paisley Abbey, steamers on the Clyde, hand bell ringing (with participation), Paisley Observatory, Glasgow Trades Hall, Glasgow City Chambers, humanism, war graves in Belgium, love letters from a Desert Rat, working with the Royals, crafts and safety advice from the police.

In September 2011, Vanduara were joined by guests and representatives from most guilds to celebrate their 40th anniversary.

The County was well represented at the Scottish AGM in Edinburgh and several members attended the UK AGM in Southend and the Scottish Trefoil Guild weekend at Netherurd.

Renfrewshire County contributed to the 500+ boxes of tablet given to delegates at the WAGGGS World Conference in Edinburgh.

This will be my last report as I am now the secretary of Trefoil Guild Scotland following the appointment of Elizabeth Higton as Chairman. I have greatly enjoyed my time as county
chairman and wish Raye Wyllie our new chairman well.
